Ebay: The name Baphomet traces back to the end of the Crusades. Around 1250, in an Occitan poem bewailing the defeat of the Seventh Crusade, Austorc d’Aorlhac refers to “Bafomet”.
When the medieval order of the Knights Templar was suppressed by King Philip IV of France, on Friday, October 13, 1307, King Philip had many French Templars simultaneously arrested, and then tortured into confessions. The name Baphomet comes up in several of these confessions, in reference to an idol of some type that the Templars were said to have been worshipping. The description of the object changed from confession to confession. Some Templars denied any knowledge of it. Others, under torture, described it as being either a severed head, a cat, or a head with three faces.

Ebay: Very cool vintage choker necklace of a ram’s head. The ram’s head is highly detailed with an embossed criss cross pattern on his face and curved horns. Under the ram head are two flower plumes. Hanging from the plumes are two u shaped bars with a sort of fringe or ruffled design on them.
The pendant is fairly heavy. The ram has a sideways hole in his mouth (see pictures) that is not visible from the front. I don’t know if something use to hang from his mouth or not.
The metal is a slightly darker silver tone. The metal is in good condition with normal vintage wear. The metal has a few worn spots near the ram’s mouth and where the rings hold the U shaped bars in place but you have to look very closely to even notice that. The chain has a spring ring clasp.
Ebay: This is genuine, ancient Assyrian bronze goat amulet. At the time this amulet was produced in the 12th or 13th century B.C., the Assyrians had an empire which stretched from the Mediterranean to the Capsian, including much of the Levant and Anatolia, and had completely subjugated Israel, Phoenicia, and Babylon. Within a century or two they would even threaten the mighty kingdom of ancient Egypt. Of course, the goat was a extremely significant economic asset to the ancient civilizations of Asia Minor and Mesopotamia. These ancient peoples made full use of the animal, consuming both the dairy produce as well as the flesh.
It might be hard to imagine wild goats in the area of Asia Minor, the Levant, and Mesopotamia today – Turkey, Armenia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, etc. However keep in mind that the area is referred to as “the fertile crescent” for a reason. Historical accounts of the area and artifacts from the area refer to extensive grasslands and diverse animal species including a number of different types of gazelle, deer, onager, wild sheep and goats…as well as wild ox, buffalo, elephants, rhinoceri, lions, tigers, and even cheetah and giraffes. Many of the more exotic species more traditionally associated with North Africa could be found in the region.
This amulet is truly a splendid little momento of a world long gone. It’s also an intriguing glance at the casting work of an artisan jeweler of some three thousand years ago. The amulet stands on its own with great stability. The construction is quite substantial, much sturdier than its delicate appearance suggests. It possesses the beautiful tone of ancient bronze, a glow just as rich as ancient gold. So that it may be worn, bronze-tone chain is included at no additional charge. Within a week or two of being worn the chain will darken so as to closely match the pendant. If you prefer, silver and gold electro-plated as well as 14kt solid gold and sterling silver chains are available as well.
